This means your plants receive all the nutrients they need, despite more plants in a smaller space. The reason we’re able to pack more plants into a smaller space is because of the nutrient-rich soil and less weeds. That’s weeks of harvesting a variety of salad vegetables and herbs, instead of just a handful of tomatoes and carrots each week. With traditional vegetable gardening spacing, our 4’x4’ bed would hold 2 tomato plants and a couple of herbs and carrots. Using a 4’x4’ bed as an example, and growing the following vegetables:Īccording to this plant list, in our 4’x4’ foot bed we could grow: 3 tomato plants, 2 pepper plants, 1 cucumber plant, 24 lettuce plants, 32 carrots, 8 arugula, 2 basil and 4 parsley plants. You would then fill each square with the recommended vegetables, mixing and matching depending on what you’ll be growing during that current season. A 4’x4’ bed would hold 16 squares, and a 4’x8’ bed would hold 32 squares. Think of your raised garden bed as a grid, with each square measuring 1 foot on each side. Change the font dropdown in the sidebar to see how they look if you change the font. Some effects still work on any font family and they can be freely used where you don't have access to change the font styles (eg. When publishing ASCII art text on websites make sure to always use monospace characters that have the same width for each character, such as Courier or Lucida Console. Or the space between the words is smaller than a dash sign. For example usually I is narrower than an M. Use monospace characters - In most font families the width of the letters vary. The text should be as close to the top and left of the text box as possible. For the best result let the characters touch each other without the gap between them. Monospace characters need to be used, otherwise, the resulting image will look scrambled.ĭecrease the line height in your paragraphs and letter spacing. You need to use a font where the width of each character is the same. First, because it is text-based, it can be hard to format. There are a few things to keep in mind when using ASCII art. What to keep in mind when using ASCII art text? Your text will be turned into ASCII art and you can then copy and paste it wherever you want. Look around in the style gallery for text inspiration and once you have your text selected, click on the “Create ASCII Art” button. Then, you can use this online tool and converter to turn your text into ASCII art. To create ASCII art text, you can use any text editor to type in or copy and paste the text you want to convert. You can use ASCII art text in any text conversations you have and on any website or app that allows text input. Adding some juice to it can also help make it more readable or just more fun. Ascii art is sometimes the only way to increase the font size or other styles of text on some websites.Īlso, due to the nature of text-based communication such as in chat rooms and text-based games, it can be useful to have text that is not just boring old black text on a white background. AFAIK you can't get an fixed-font point with ShowMessage, you'll need to write your own version of ShowMessage.Stand out in social media messages and comment sections spicing up your text with ASCII art text. Now of course, making those characters properly show up the display is a different matter: You need an fixed-point font to do that. That's right, you copy paste the actual char (the right-angled lines, the horizontal lines, the vertical lines, whatever you need) - you don't need to care about the Unicode code points themselves. How did I write that? VERY easy: Open up this page and copy-paste the box drawing characters that you need. '│ the chars you need from the wikipedia page. '│ You have UNICODE DELPHI, you may now write │'#13#10 + Here's an example: procedure TForm20.Button1Click(Sender: TObject) Your Delphi's editor is perfectly capable of working with the codes directly, you can safely use them in your pascal source files. Every single one of those box-drawing chars has an UNICODE code point. IF you're using a UNICODE version of Delphi, stop thinking about ASCII art in terms of ASCII chars. Help me to choose and point to, of course, subjectively most effective and most code-less solution. Now, the question is - what would be best way to say Windows Dialogs (API) to use OEM charset withing procedure that triggers ShowMessage() ? Overriding ShowMessage() ? Receiving his Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University in 1977, Nye has also been the recipient of an honorary PhD from John Hopkins University in 2008 and a PhD in Science from Willamette University.įollowing university, Nye worked at Boeing in Seattle and was instrumental in the development of the hydraulic pressure resonance suppressor that, to this day, is still utilized by the widely known Boeing 747. His Disney/PBS show 'Bill Nye the Science Guy' ran from 1993 until 1998 and put Nye on the map. She even taught him how to make their family's famous salad dressing, which he has described as being "pure chemistry.Bill Nye's keynotes reflect a profound understanding of science that he has been able to translate to the masses. Bill Nye The Science Guy attributes much of his knowledge and success to his family, especially his mother. But she isn't the only genius relative in the Jenkins-Nye family tree.īill Nye's maternal grandfather was also quite the smarty-pants, as he worked as a professor of chemistry at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. Navy to assist them in decoding cryptic messages used by the Japanese and Germans. Jenkins-Nye was studying math and psychology at Goucher College when she was recruited by the U.S. The brutality earned Nye a broken nose and a dislocated shoulder that has never fully healed.īill Nye may be the only famous prodigy in his family, but he had to inherit his gifted mind from someone, right? Skipping the nature versus nurture debate, let's just say that The Science Guy may have his brainy mother to thank for at least a fraction of his intelligence.īill's mother, Jacqueline Jenkins-Nye, was a codebreaker during World War II. Ultimate frisbee may sound like a goofy sport, but don't be fooled. The Olympic Windjammers traveled to games near and far, occasionally flying on private planes piloted by Nye's buddies at Boeing. Bill Nye was a natural at the sport and he is credited as taking part in the early years of the ultimate frisbee rivalry between Seattle and Portland. Growing up in Washington, D.C., Bill Nye often played frisbee football with his friends and then went on to play ultimate frisbee at Cornell University.Īfter college, Nye became the founder and captain of the first ever men's ultimate frisbee team in Seattle, which he called the Olympic Windjammers. However, this is not his go-to physical activity. As can be seen from episodes of Bill Nye The Science Guy, Nye is a huge baseball fan. Once again, Bill Nye defies the laws of nature as he is actually quite the athlete. If movies and television have driven anything home about science geeks, it's that they are notorious for being weak and bad at sports. Nye claims that Begley became jealous of the features on his solar panels. The true rivalry between these green machines is believed to have ignited during the filming of an episode of Living With Ed, Begley's short-lived series about leading an environmentally conscious life. Nye didn't hesitate to amp up his game by starting a vegetable garden, ordering solar panels- and then came the rain barrels for recycled water (how he pulled off recycled water during the California drought is puzzling, but good job, Bill). The wager between the two famous environmentalist super nerds began the day after Nye moved to the neighborhood and they have been modifying their homes and lifestyles accordingly for about a decade now. This wizard of science started a friendly cold war with his carbon footprint.īill Nye has been in a longstanding competition with his Los Angeles neighbor Ed Begley, Jr. Most competitive neighbors will buy a fancy car or order the most high-tech flat screen TV, but not Bill Nye. Unfortunately, Bill Nye had a learning experience of his own as his project went unfunded, only raising $31,528 out of $100,000. Nye believes that the best way to teach blossoming minds is through experience and having the point of view of a bird may be the closest that they will ever come to experiencing the physics of flight. So, Bill Nye did what anyone with a bright idea would do: he began a Kickstarter campaign. However, it was up to The Science Guy to reel in the remainder of the funding as well as publicity. Gamedesk had already prepared a prototype of AERO 3D through their own partnership with Iridescent Learning and contributions from the National Academy of Sciences and the Office of Naval Research. This particular game was specially crafted to teach young children about aerodynamics through animated birds. so he decided to design a game for the iPad.įascinated by the concept of flight, Bill Nye partnered up with Gamedesk in 2012 to create AERO 3D. All work and no play make Bill a dull boy. Even if you do burn calories while performing the exercise, you cannot spot reduce or target specific areas for fat loss. Since muscle and fat are two different types of tissue, strengthening your muscles will not reduce the fat that covers it. This can’t be done with a strength-training machine, especially one for which you have to sit down and isolate just a few muscles. The adduction and abduction machines are often mistakenly used in hopes of slimming down thighs. The risk with this, however, is that a tight IT band can throw your knee out of place. Skeptics note that while the machine does strengthen these muscles, it also tightens the iliotiibial band, connective tissue that helps your hips with abduction. The abductor machine targets the muscles that are used for hip abduction, namely your tensor fasciae latae and your three glute muscles: the gluteus medius, minimus and maximus. Critics argue that it is less effective than other adduction exercises, because the glute muscles have a harder time activating while you are in the seated position. It also activates your gracilis in your inner thighs and your pectineus or hip flexors. The adductor machine primarily targets your three adductor muscles: the adductor brevis, longus and magnus. The opposite happens with the abduction machine, where your legs are on the inside of the pads and you press against them as you move your legs away from each other. For the hip adduction machine, you press against them as you squeeze your legs together. With both machines, you seat yourself and put your legs next to padded levers. The adduction and abduction machines look very similar on first glance. Upon returning to civilization, a spruced-up and clean-shaven Chuck learns that he was declared dead by his family and friends. Soon after, he is rescued by a passing container ship. Chuck awakens and futilely attempts to rescue Wilson but is left to grieve over his loss. Chuck and the raft survive a storm, but afterward, Wilson falls off the raft and floats away. Chuck successfully launches the raft that he has stocked with water and the unopened Federal Express package. Chuck opens most of the packages, finding several useful items, but does not open a package with a pair of golden angel wings printed on it. He finds sufficient food, water, and shelter. The difference between the titles of the two accounts lets us know that the one mentioned in the MAGAN Text must be part of the alchemical process to awaken the Initiate. Once one discovers the differences between the two accounts, the Initiate should then ask themselves why were these differences put there in the first place? The answer to this question actually will reveal some profound insights that the novice would have simply walked away from. Yet they will not look into why the account differs from INANNA”S Descent. Most people would simply write this off as a bad version of INANNA’S DESCENT INTO THE UNDERWORLD. The MAGAN Text has a section entitled Of the Sleep of ISHTAR. This is a very important aspect because even when I mention this publicly many people still do not understand what I am talking about. A lot of the information that has been posted here on the blog page was discovered by comparing the Simon Necronomicon with Mythologies from Ancient Mesopotamia. This is another case in point that I must make mention of. I have seen people make the mistake of thinking that they can create their own rituals and actually f**c up things by putting out rituals that cannot be verified in the Sumerian Mythologies. This is a more effective process because it helps you see what perspective the author had when putting the information together. Yet before we start adding on to the Book of Black earth and taking away from it, the best advice that I could give is to first ask why it is even written in the text. Yet this journey is something that each and every one of us must pursue for ourselves. I have researched most of the text and can verify its authenticity in how it relates to Sumerian and Mesopotamian Shamanism. The first mistake is to think that the rituals in the Simon Necronomicon are invented by Simon. We will also find ourselves in a state of confusion and not even know it. However, when we over analyze some things, everything becomes mechanical and our sense of purpose is lost. Actually many of the GateWalkers that I have met thoroughly analyze Simon’s findings, which is very useful in determining what parts of it is actually real. People outside the GateWalking community may wrongly assume that GateWalkers religiously believe in the Simon Necronomicon and this is far from the truth. I would also like to give a word of advice for all practitioners of the Simon Necronomicon. I look forward in being used further by the Goddess and Gods, if it be there will in the upcoming New Year. This ability to connect with spirit and find power in your connection continues into January 4th when Venus forms a sextile to Pluto. As you feel this connection with your spirit, you’ll be able to meditate and come up with new solutions that you didn’t consider in the past. This means that you can feel more connected with your spirit. Interestingly, on January 3rd, Venus enters Pisces and is in its exaltation. Additionally, we are in the sign of Capricorn (Fish-Man), so we should also get some energies from ENKI, as well as, ADAR. The great thing about this celebration is that January 2 nd falls on a Friday, a day which is ruled by Venus. However, if you have an already working relationship with the Goddess, then you should know what birthday gift to give to your mother. I think the foundation of the workings mentioned in the paragraph is good for newcomers to INANNA. On the day of January 2 nd the Shaman would make special supplications to her and sacrifice. From what I have research thus far, the Priest/Priestess, is supposed to light a white candle on the morning of January 1 st, and then extinguish it later that evening. January 2 nd is celebrated as the Nativity of Inanna by many Pagans throughout the world. Although I have to do some more research in this, New Year’s Day as celebrated in the Western World is still a Sacred Day for all Shamans of the Sumerian Pantheon. However, I must state that we all know that the New Year amongst the GateWalking community is actually celebrated during the Sumerian New Year festival that would take place during the Spring. You need to use your throat, tongue, teeth, lips and cheeks in different ways to make different sounds. Every one of these vowel sounds is produced in a specific way. Of course, you don’t want to make your vowel sounds so long when you speak, but when you’re practising, this is a useful trick. If you can hold the short vowel sound, then you’re not pronouncing it correctly you’re probably making the long sound instead. When you say ‘bit’, the vowel sound is a single release of sound you can’t hold it: ‘bit’. Try it! When you pronounce the word with the short vowel, it should be impossible to hold the vowel sound. When you pronounce the word with the long vowel, you should be able to hold the vowel sound for as long as you want, like this: be-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-eat. For example: ‘bit’ and ‘beat’, or ‘shut’ and ‘shoot’. But, how can you check if you’re pronouncing the sounds correctly? Take a pair of words which have almost the same pronunciation, except one has a short vowel and the other has a long vowel. However, the difference between short and long vowels is important. After all, native speakers don’t pronounce the same sounds in the same way. Often, it doesn’t matter so much if you pronounce a sound differently to native speakers. Tip two: focus on differentiating short and long vowels. Ignore the spelling learn to focus on the phonetics instead! In our experience, many students have difficulties with pronunciation not because they can’t pronounce the sounds correctly, but because they get confused by the spelling of the word. Phonetic script is clear and consistent, whereas written English is not. When you learn a new word, or you want to check the pronunciation of a word, look for the phonetic script. If you’ve learned one thing from this lesson, it should be that you can’t easily know the pronunciation of a vowel sound from the spelling. Although there aren’t many words like this, it includes some very common words and names, like ‘parents’, ‘Sarah’ or ‘Mary’. Less commonly, the /eə/ sound is spelled ‘ar’. Be careful, because some of these spellings can also produce an /ɪə/ sound, like ’ere’ or ‘ear’. The /eə/ sound also has many possible spellings it can be written with ‘ai’, ‘ere’, ‘are’ or ‘ear’. It can also be produced by the letters ‘ea’, as in ‘idea’, or sometimes by a single ‘e’ for example ‘zero’ or ‘serious’. The /ɪə/ sound can be produced by many spellings: ‘ere’, ‘eer, ‘ear’ and ‘ie’ are all possible. here, sphere, deer, beer, near, experience. It’s the only common word which has this sound and isn’t written with ‘oi’ or ‘oy’. ‘Lawyer’ has the /ɔɪ/ sound, although its spelling is strange. Even better, these spellings don’t have other pronunciations if you see a word written with ‘oi’ or ‘oy’, you can be 99.9% sure it’s pronounced with the /ɔɪ/ sound. The /ɔɪ/ sound is also relatively simple: it’s spelled with ‘oi’ or ‘oy’. There are a few words with ‘ough’ which have the /aʊ/ sound, like ‘drought’, but these are rare. aʊ/Ĭompared to the other sounds in this section, this one is simpler! It generally has two possible spellings: ‘ow’ and ‘ou’. Less common spellings include ‘ou’, like ‘soul’, or ‘ough’, like ‘although’. The /əʊ/ sound is most often produced by the letter ‘o’, although there are also many words with ‘oa’ and ‘ow’. However, in American English, the ‘r’ is pronounced in these words: ‘part,’ ‘hard,’ ‘car,’ ‘dark’. In these words, the ‘r’ is not pronounced: ‘part’, ‘hard’, ‘car’, ‘dark’. Also, in British English, this vowel sound is often produced by the letters ‘ar’. For example: ‘after’, ‘asked’, ‘France’, or ‘bath’. Many words which have the long /aː/ sound in British English have an /æ/ sound in American English. Specifically, it’s much more common in British English. The /aː/ sound is very different in British and American English. Next, let’s look at the five long vowel sounds. Sometimes, the letters ‘ou’ together can make an /ʊ/ sound, though this is less common. The /ʊ/ sound can be produced by a letter ‘u’ by itself, but also by ‘oo’. Other possible spellings are ‘ou’ and ‘oo’. However, there are also many words where a letter ‘o’ produces the /ʌ/ sound in a stressed syllable. The /ʌ/ sound can be produced by a letter ‘u’ by itself. In American English, the /ɒ/ sound is pronounced with the mouth slightly more open and relaxed, and the sound is more nasal. In British English, the sound is pronounced with the mouth more closed, and it’s usually shorter. The /ɒ/ sound is also different in American and British English. A few other spellings are possible, like ‘a’ in some words. The /ɒ/ sound is often produced by a letter ‘o’ by itself.
